WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE EDGE AS AN ELITE SURFER, YOU'RE MOVING IN TO BIG WAVE TERRITORY OR YOU ARE A 'WEEKEND WARRIOR', B.E.T - BREATH ENHANCEMENT TRAINING IS ESSENTIALLY A PROGRAM TO HELP YOU GAIN CONFIDENCE IN THE SURF & IMPROVE HOW YOU DEAL WITH BREATH HOLDS & HOLD DOWNS.  B.E.T WILL HELP TAKE YOUR PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL ABILITIES TO A NEW LEVEL, PROVIDING YOU WITH THE CONFIDENCE & COMPOSURE TO PROGRESS YOUR SURFING.

Your surfing performance and ability to relax in bigger waves will dramatically improve with better breathing practices as your heart beat, nervous system and the emotional centres of your brain all respond favourably.  It doesn't matter whether it's 3ft, 8ft or 15ft wave faces & hold downs that challenge you, this training is suitable for all levels. If your challenge is physical & you get rattled paddling out or wiping out, we go through specific pool drills which mimic the surf & these will train your body to be much more competent. If your greatest challenge is the mental anxiety that you experience during hold downs or under a high heart rate, then we have the knowledge & training techniques to make you more comfortable, confident & able to deal with that. Nam is also the Elite Performance Specialist for Surfing Australia's Olympic Campaign, so if your performance suffers under competitive pressures we have that covered too!

This course is PACKED WITH POWERFUL TOOLS, TIPS & TECHNIQUES THAT you can apply immediately.   

Breath Enhancement Training covers:

  • Preparation for challenging paddle outs, wipe outs and hold downs. Effective ways to warm up & prepare yourself on the beach or in the boat, before paddling out.
  • Improving Lung Capacity & Breathing Muscle strength. We can lose an alarming % of our lung capacity each decade through incorrect breathing practice and lack of correct education.
  • Extending your breath hold safely. Please note this is not a free-dive specific training course & you will not be attempting maximum static breath holds. This is surf specific training and our drills recognise that you are under a higher heart rate when the breath is compromised. We ensure that you will gain greater confidence in bigger surf.
  • Improving physical & mental tolerance to Carbon Dioxide which builds up in a breath hold situation causing anxiety & lack of focus. This component of the training involves activities with short breath holds on a full lung.
  • Using oxygen more efficiently, enhancing performance whilst increasing confidence and relaxation during hold downs, bigger surf etc. This component of the training involves activities with short breath holds with an empty lung.
  • Recovery Breathing Techniques allowing deep tissue oxygenation, relaxation & the calming of your nervous system after challenging situations. Also a great technique to improve focus.
  • Biofeedback on your Heart Rate Variability (HRV) & Nervous System. One person in each course will be connected to a non-invasive Heart Rate Variability biofeedback program that reflects heart-brain interaction and coherence between systems in the body.  You will be educated via this live demonstration on how to create ideal heart rhythms for greater control of the nervous system, faster recovery and better performance mentally & physically when under load.
